Russell Webster

Russell Webster is a musician and composer from Austinmer, NSW. He is a self taught pianist, who has been playing music for over 15 years.

Russell plays keys and is the producer for bands Shining Bird, Tropical Strength and The M1.

Shining Bird has received widespread acclaim for its unique brand of Australian experimental pop. The band has won several awards including FBi SMAC Awards and the National Live Music Awards. Their second album ‘Black Opal’ released through Spunk Records included a collaboration with legendary didgeridoo player Charlie McMahon (Midnight Oil, Gondwanaland) and it picked up album of the year and song of the year for Rivermouth and Helluva Lot.

Shining Bird has toured Australia extensively and supported artists including Kurt Vile, Beach House, The Drones, Midnight Oil and Father John Misty.

Russell is currently working on forthcoming albums for Shining Bird and Tropical Strength slated for release late 2020. Composition work includes short films The Fjordman and Isolated Incidents featuring Waangenga Blanco. Commercial clients include Qantas, Fringe Festival, Corona Beer and FBi Radio.
